As you might know by now one of the new businesses in the Rodmay Hotel is a beauty salon...The Madcap Beauty Spot...great name and guess where it comes from? It's from the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie,  starring Julie Andrews, just click on the Youtube link below to see it...it's right at the beginning, you can't miss it!

Rodmay Garage Sale

Almost every Saturday the Rodmay has a garage sale...with no garage. What they do have is a huge room, with an outside entrance, with a beautiful view, and lots, and I mean lots of junk stuff. If you are ever in the area drop by, you might find something really cool! Proceeds from the garage sale are used to restore this old gal.

A secret revealed...

In a previous post I mentioned that two new businesses were coming to the Rodmay...I am happy to reveal one of those businesses...not sure on the exact opening day...but here it is...

Not only is Graham Winter a well known hair dresser...beautifying and coiffing some of the best dressed ladies and gents in Vancouver... but he is a world renowned artist as well. I bet you think those postcards on the left and right of his opening soon sign are photos..well then you would be wrong. Those are pictures of Graham's paintings which will be shown in the hotel lobby...again not sure when but I'll keep you posted.

There is a little tree...

That sits on the corner of the Rodmay hotel which had the Powell River Garden Club executive committee in a hubbub...what s it? that color...it looks like...no I think it's...

So they asked an expert...Lin Morrison..also a member of the garden club...and this is what she said....

"I went and looked this morning, and the tree is a mountain ash variety. I'd seen one before, it has lovely glaucous leaves and pink berries, that turn mauve in fall. I looked it up, and the variety is called Sorbus vilmorinii. They don't grow very large. I had wondered about that, because sometimes size just means the tree is young, but this variety achieves just 16 feet at maturity. I think you can propagate from seed, but they may not be quite the same as the parent. I found that out with copper beech seed. They grew anywhere
from deep burgundy to green and all shades between. This mountain ash might be worth a little seed raid this winter, it is a perfect yard sized tree and I do like the softer colours of this variety. Lin"

I wonder if this tree will have any berries left by the end of winter???
